Sibiu Day Three

A rest day today. Tony is battling with a nuisance congestion so we decide to visit the “Urgente” section of the nearby large hospital. This was the first of doing-something-like-the-locals! Stark corridor to wait our turn but only took 45 minutes. Young female doctor was most helpful. She wanted to pump in some drugs intravenously but Tony politely declined! Instead we had the anti-biotic prescription. Visited the nearby “farmacia” in the historic precinct. Just medical stuff, no gifts and accessories in this tiny shop. I loved the steps leading into the old building. 40 lei for the hospital visit and 45 lei for the prescription...throat spray too...we thought was reasonable. 3 lei per dollar.
Coffee and cake taken in one of the town’s three squares. A little wander past the renowned Iron Bridge, past the Catholic Church being restored by that bottomless pit of money provided by the EU and a peek into the fairly impressive Orthodox Church. We have seen our fair share of os Church interiors but we were still impressed with this one.
Tony returned to the hotel. The day was becoming very warm. After watching the children playing in the main square, I was disappointed to find that both the tower that I wanted to climb and the museum I wanted to visit, were closed. The museum let you down lightly by providing free biscuits in a traditionally painted tub to those who paid 1 lei to visit the cool garden courtyard.
After a wander around the old town, and a 45 minutes wait at the archaic post office to buy 4 stamps, I opted for an ice- cream and a small wreath of bread covered with sesame seeds from the hole-in-the-wall bakery.
After a suitable rest Tony and I ventured back to the main plaza. Both enjoyed our well-cooked meals and watching the now, much busier family fun.
