Woke to a bright sunny morning. Wandered back to the Piazza Bra and visited the ancient arena before umpteen tourists arrived. Today we noticed far more tourist groups being led by their flag bearing guides. The arena was quite special. Tonight there is an Italian blues artist performing. We inquired about tickets but all sold out. Such a special setting for any performance.
We decided to catch the On-Off Bus and headed towards the town's most significant church...patron saint of the town is buried here. Lovely quiet area, had a ridiculously cheap latte and scrummy pastries then headed to the church. Bonus for us was a display from last year's Expo that explained the evolution of Da Vinci 's "Last Supper." We had decided to forgo the 80 euro tour to see the original in Milan and were more than happy with this 6 euro detailed display and life-Sized replica!
After another light but delicious lunch, we caught the bus to the Roman Teatro, an amphitheatre built on the other side of the river to house theatrical productions 2000 years ago, as distinct from the gladiatorial battles in the Arena. Great views of the city from the terrace above.
Another wander through the vibrant pedestrian precinct of this trendy town and back to our apartment. Had a couple of wines in the local bar and cooked chicken salad for tonight's dinner.
Time to prepare for tomorrow's journey to Venice.
after a season of dramatic operas, an Italian blues artist is playing as I write this Blog
The Last Supper, Verona style.
The smaller Roman theatre by the river.
Relaxing in our quaint apartment.
