The sun had the audacity to shine today. I could have shot it down.
Last night we stumbled across a bar that was a mix of happy locals and tourists. The yummiest of pintxos served as dinner. Returned in the morning to take photos of this cute spot.
Today was a day of riding the ups and downs of valleys and mountain passes. We dodged horses and admired hilltop villages and remnants of past history. We had a cuppa under the plane trees of Seu d’Erguell, the site of the World Canoeing Championships at the end of this month.
Andorra was part of our day. A tax haven and really one big shopping precinct at the base of a rocky valley. The architecture reminded me of communist Bulgaria. However, it is also a major winter playground as evidenced by the criss-crossing of wide ski paths...grands pistes. It was also the region of our highest pass...nature intervened to prevent anything higher...at 2400 metres. Andorra received the most snow in the recent days. Tony filled up the tank under the snowy gaze.
Late afternoon we arrived in Catalonian Puigcerda. Our accomm appears to be a former villa next to an artificial public lake. Quite pleasant.
A walk into town revealed the town square where we happily had an aperatif and the tapas on offer under the shadows of the 12 th century bell tower, the only remaining section of the church after Franco’s supporters destroyed the rest in 1936.
