Sailed from Brac at 6.30 ( we are still in bed!) and arrived in time to see the sun rising over the dramatic landscape of Omiš. The river flows into the sea between high rocky hills.
After breakfast we prepared to ride along the canyon to the beginning of our raft ride. Of course you cannot ride anywhere in Croatia without eventually going up a hill so,after 6kms of a scenic, flat ride along the valley, the UP began.
A rest stop saw an enterprising farmer sitting behind a table with freshly picked small nashi pears, the sweetest of figs and grapes. He did a good trade.
We road along a plateau for a while and then a pleasant descent to the river.
Some of our group decided to continue riding the circuit back to Omiš, while 23 of us opted for the 3 hr rafting trip. Tony and I found ourselves at the front of one of the rafts, on either side of the boat. As the guide liked this configuration, we found ourselves paddling at the front for the entire trip. A little bit weary at the end!!!!
The river surrounds were delightful. Thick forest on either side with soaring canyon walls rising just beyond the forest. Again the water was crystal clear so we were gliding above healthy water plants and a ridiculous amount of contented fish swimming amongst the rocks. There were plenty of rocks. The river flow was calm and the rapids moderate, but we still managed to get completely wet. Taking our cameras was not advised so no action shots. However the ubiquitous camera man was in action and I have a CD of the trip to take home.
After our lunch roll from-the-boat, we gently rode the remaining 6 kms back to our boat and chilled for a few hours. Dinner tonight was our responsibility and we found a quiet place, away from the busy cute alleyways and in view of those soaring cliffs.
From whence we came...
Others canoeing up stream.
Old town, Omiš.
Dinner by the river looking towards the canyon.
What a holiday you are having. I'm so jealous of the rafting!
