DayTwelve To Zadar

Not the best of sleeps last night. A howling summer storm erupted about 3 am and that was just after a "schoolies" party finished about 2am in one of the hotel rooms. Our eventual rise saw a damp day. Going to need wet weather gear. We needed to ride 45 mins to the ferry terminal that would lead us to Split. Upon arrival we were told that the two earlier scheduled ferries, had been cancelled due to the weather. Consequently there were umpteen people trying to get on to OUR ferry. Anze advised that the pillions hustle on to the boat as passengers and secure a part of the lounge area for the group. Very wise move. The entire lounge area was covered in luggage, prams, dogs and bodies. During the two hour crossing, our guides treated us to a makeshift lunch of cold meats, cheeses, olives, cornichons and chunky bread. Well done Men!

Upon disembarkation we had a 240 kms ride to Zadak. As with our previous rides along the coastline, there was a continuous line of islands to add to the vista. There was also a noticeable fleet of yachts on the waters. A yachty ' s paradise we had been told. The rocky and scrubby hills were always on our right. My general opinion still remains that the consistent weather and the clear waters are the attractions to this coast, as once you leave the shore, the town's themselves and the rough terrain are not particularly attractive.

Despite a few showers we avoided the bulk of the rain. We wound our way from the main road to a cute, quiet cove with one new hotel, ours for the night. The sun set on the small harbour as we dined on the covered terrace. Early night to make up for last night!

Hvar Harbour at night...the boats were already rocking before the storm hit.

One very crowded ferry.

Our night's destination at sunset.
