At last...Quebec.

Friday morning was spent slowly getting ready to leave our comfy home in Halifax. Heather and I went for a final walk around our neighbourhood, coming across some more elaborate "Festive" decorations. In Boston, people would wish us "Happy Holidays" so as to not offend anyone!!!!

Laurie popped in to offer to take us to the train station but we had already booked a taxi. The train left at 1pm. It was a very long train called L'Océan. This overnight service leaves Halifax three days a week and as this was the last service before Christmas Day, the train was full. Chris and I shared a cabin. Compact but with a small bathroom. As it turned out we spent our travelling time either in the Dining Car, up in the viewing carriage, in the comfy coffee lounge or at the small bar.
We had lunch as soon as we boarded and as it was going to get dark about 4.30 we decided to secure a spot in the viewing carriage. To help pass the night we opted for the 8.30 dinner sitting.  After a coffee at 5pm and a wine at 7- ish dinner, was served. We shared our table with Holly, a most convivial retired teacher of animation who was heading to Toronto.
I worked out how to "make" our beds ( before Frederick came to offer to do the same) and after reading a little it was time to sleep. We were going to be awakened at 5.45 for a 6.15 disembarkation. As it turned out, the train was running an hour behind time. I had had some difficulty contacting our next host re the check in and was a little anxious. Wasted my energy.  Sylvain met us as we arrived at the 1940's duplex and was just so genuinely helpful.
The 40's apartment has been both tastefully refurbished and furnished with quality products and has absolutely everything you could possibly need. Just wonderful for our week's stay. Sylvain has even added Christmas decorations and a bright Christmas Tree.
First venture was to the 'Couche-Tard, ( virtually a fancy 7-11) for milk. Over the road was what will be our local café, so hot drinks and cake was in order. Return to take stock. Decided to walk the neighbourhood and visit the supermarché. Heather volunteered to do tea.

Pleasant walk in this very residential area with several parks. Spent ages in the supermarket and walked home with four bags. Chris and I fiddled with blogs and plans for the next week while Heather prepared "Chicken with 40 Cloves of Garlic." She modified the recipe for just us and it was simply delicious.          Hello Quebec!!!
