Boston 5

More respectable start this morning.  Also, our first encounter with rain.
Caught two trains to Harvard University. On our way we passed another Uni and a large college. Boston is definitely a seat of major education.  Emerged from the subway to drizzle.  Harvard is literally across the road. An extensive assembly of large buildings dating from the 1700's. Students have begun their Holiday break, although there were still signs of life in some of the residential Halls.  A steady smattering of tourists wandering through. One could imagine the buzz during a normal week.  Several squirrels were cheekily flitting from tree to tree along the ground. We entered a class room building and imagined the tens of thousands of students who had scurried up and down the staircase.  Once again, we were impressed by the most evident generosity of citizens towards public institutions.  Names of benefactors were emblazoned on all of the Halls.

We found the spacious, comfortable and modern Student Building ( another benefactor) and indulged in a hot drink and snack while happily people-watching.

Back on the train to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.  Still drizzling but the museum was only 150 metres from the station. We spent a pleasant afternoon dividing our time between an impressive  collection of Impressionists and American painters. Some new painters for me and their work held an intrigue.
We timed our departure with many others and the queue for the cloakroom was VERY long. Train back to central Boston became VERY crowded. In steady but lightish rain we walked the 8 mins to our apt. After finishing our wine and goodies in the fridge, we donned our coats to find a place for tea in Little Italy. The first one that we came to that was open was our unanimous choice.
We were greeted by the attentive owner, who introduced us to Christiana, the most professional waiter.  Another wine and a ridiculously large but tender stuffed and crumbed veal chop later, we adjourned.
The apt has been returned to the state in which we had found it,in preparation for our early rise tomorrow.
Halifax, Canada, here we come.
                                                     Wandering Harvard University
                                                               Me and John Harvard!
                                                                Well-worn steps.
                                                                        ...maybe not!
                                                           Boston Museum of Fine Arts
Paul Revere...master silversmith. Oh! And revolutionary!
A pleasant sight while waiting in the cloakroom queue.
