Boston 4
Concert Report. The night we arrived, we met a percussionist packing up after a concert in a church that we had wandered in to. We asked whether he could recommend another Christmas Concert and he mentioned with a grin the Boston Gay Men's Chorus, where he would also be the percussionist. We booked tickets. Having left the apt at 7pm the train was painstakingly slow and we weren't exactly sure where the auditorium was so we arrived just as the concert started. Chatted to the soprano-training usherette and crept in following the first applause. Two hundred immaculately dressed men filled the stage. The hall was majestic and the performance exemplary. A mixture of old and new carols and snippets of humour. We enjoyed every minute and congratulated our percussion friend when it had finished. He was chuffed to see us!!
A late arrival home with tea and biscuits to follow saw us late to bed. Chris and I rose ridiculously late. Heather thought that we had left the apt without her!!
The leisurely day that then unfolded was once again delightful. We sauntered down another of the narrow, cute streets of our Italian neighbourhood. Being Saturday the Bostonians were out to play. Another of Boston's markets was in full swing and we found some local offerings to sample...bagel, doughnut and a popover. Also a really decent coffee! Re-visited historic Faneuil Hall that had been closed during the week and added to our knowledge of America prior to independence. This tourist area that we had visited earlier in the week was buzzing with people, buskers and bright lights. Such fun.
Our aim for the day was to find the site of the Tea Party incident. Strolling along busy boulevards and the port area finally brought us to the museum and area of re-enactment. The original site is buried under GRAND hotels but we got the idea.
Darkish by now and we back-tracked. Decided it was bar time and enjoyed drinks and nibbles at an old granary store. Heather had an egg-nog 'cause it seemed like a local thing to do. The Saturday night crowd was growing. As we walked back through Little Italy we were gobsmacked to see the lines of people outside the restaurants waiting for an available table. No thanks !!
Having bought homemade soup at the market...that was still open...Chris decided that fresh Italian bread was needed. We walked out with bread, fat custard cannolis and a selection of biscuits.
Fet up to enjoy a quiet evening.
Something special at Jordon Hall, New England Conservatory.
Beautiful fresh asparagus. $1 for 3 bunches, $2 a box!
Enjoying a popover...though I think the Dutch name is different!
All wrapped up.
Tea Party kitsch.
Caught the tail-end of the light show on the GRAND Christmas Tree.
Waiting to eat. No pressure on the people already inside!!??
Really. How lovely.

Another great read of a fantastic sounding day
